TAJWEED IS BLOCKING YOU
From Living The Quran
& 5 Critical Areas To Focus On Instead
For those who desire a more intimate relationship with the Quran
Reciting with proper Tajweed has its merit…
…but attempting to master this science, often comes at the expense of its true purpose:
…to live the Quran the way the Prophet ﷺ lived it.
The Mark of Khushu’
Connecting with the Words of Allah causes our skin to shiver and our hearts to soften…
…yet I’ve seen time and time again, well-meaning Muslims and even prominent reciters with understanding of Arabic make this mistake:
Swaying gleefully, even bopping their heads, to the melodious “Tajweed-perfect” recitation…
…of the verses of punishment…
…verses that would have turned our Prophet’s hair gray ﷺ.
What does it mean to live the Quran?
Has this verse been misunderstood?
Those to whom We have given the Book “recite” it as it should be “recited”
Surat Al Baqarah: 121
It’s been used to prove the importance of Tajweed, but, the earliest books of Tafsir explained tilawah in this verse to mean:
“follow it as it should be followed.”
It isn’t until then will we find anxiety replaced with comfort, stress with calm, and guilt with hope.

In the last 2 decades studying Quran at different stages of my life…
…be it Tajweed, Qira’at, Usul Al-Tafsir, or the deeper sciences of Quran…
…I found there was nothing sweeter to me than recognizing when, where, and how the Words of Allah fit into my day-to-day relationships.
The Book of Allah was not intended to be exclusively accessed by the scholars and Imams.
This is a Divine message sent directly from the Creator for you and me to receive, understand, and most importantly…live.
